Painter Apprenticeship

Painters prepare the surfaces of buildings and other structures, and then apply paint, varnish, enamel, lacquer, primer or sealer, and similar materials to these surfaces, using a brush, spray gun, or roller.  A painter must be skilled in handling brushes, and other painting tools in order to apply paint thoroughly, uniformly, and rapidly to any type of paint composition and color harmony. They must know the characteristics of common

types of paints and finishes from the standpoints of durability and suitability for different purposes, and ease of handling and application. Training also includes drywall finishing (Taper) and hanging wallpaper on ceilings and walls.

Basic Qualifications

  1. 1. Applicants for Apprenticeship must be at least 18 years of age.
  2. 2. Must be able to perform essential job functions of the trade.
  3. 3. All applicants must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  4. 4. All applicants must pass drug screening prior to going to work.

Applications - When and Where to Apply

Applications will be accepted on the first working Monday and Tuesday of each month. The hours that applications will be accepted are from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Applications will be accepted at 105 W. 12th Avenue; North Kansas City, MO 64116, (816)595-4142.

Note: Each applicant must present one copy of the following documents at the time of making application:

      1. Birth Certificate
      2. High School diploma or G.E.D. and grade transcripts/ or G.E.D. Certificate.

All documents will be kept by the Committee, so present only duplicated copies which you do not want returned.

Selection of Apprentices under this program is made on the basis of qualifications alone as set forth in the approved standards and selection procedures of the Joint Apprenticeship Committee for the trade.
