Matt Dierking has joined The Builders’ Association as Safety, Health and Environmental Services Director.

Dierking will guide a talented group of professionals who provide safety and health training, consulting services and outreach to association members year-round. He joins Builders’ from McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., where he served as project safety manager for nine years; he was lead safety manager on the $278 million Tomahawk Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility project in Overland Park, Kansas as well as on the $1.25 billion National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF) in Manhattan, Kansas.

“Our talent selection team, comprised of members and staff, reviewed an outstanding field of candidates, and I’m thankful for the team’s commitment to the association. With great pride we welcome Matt to our community of practice,” said Don Greenwell, president of The Builders’ Association. “His proven experience in safety coordination and training on complex mega-jobs like NBAF will be an asset to our membership and staff as we fulfill The Builders’ mission to provide high-quality services while advancing the construction industry as a whole.”

Dierking earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in business management and a master’s degree in occupational safety management from the University of Central Missouri. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time outdoors, fishing, hunting, gardening and running the family farm with his wife, Elizabeth. Their children, Cade, 11; Hayden, 5; and Ellie, 3, are active in 4-H, scouting and sports.

“I’ve been in construction my whole life; I love it, I love Kansas City and love being around people. Teaching and education also run in my family,” Dierking said. “Safety ties into all that. With Safety, Health and Environmental Services Manager Jon Dickson’s passion for education and our shared experience in the field, we will provide consistent, up-to-date training while relating more closely to the workers we serve.”

In addition to jumping in right away to lead the association’s safety, health and environment initiatives, Dierking’s early focus will be on planning for some cornerstone events happening over the next year, including the partnership with Associated General Contractors of America to bring the Advanced Safety Management Training Course to the area, the annual Construction Safety Group golf tournament, and kicking off planning for the 2022 construction safety conference and awards.

Eddy Whitley, Chairman of The Builders’ Association Board of Directors, said, “Matt brings a strong background in construction safety leadership in the field and with our member, McCarthy. I look forward to working with him.”
