KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Builders’ Association’s Builders’ Talk online town hall series continues April 13 at 10:30 a.m., where industry leaders and a local student will discuss what area school districts are doing to prep students for a career in construction.

Bill Alexander, president and CEO of Alexander Mechanical Inc.; Steven Crosley, operation training manager at McCownGordon Construction; Jacob Diebold, current Staley High School student; and Alise Martiny, business manager and financial secretary at Greater Kansas City Building and Construction Trades Council, will come together to spotlight an important conversation about how to actively boost career interest and develop young talent in the construction industry. Kiona Sinks of Elevate Consulting will moderate.

“As a student, I’ve noticed that people my age have often been steered away from pursuing a construction career and encouraged to take a traditional path toward higher education,” Diebold said. “I’m excited to talk to industry leaders about how schools are encouraging more students to look into the range of construction jobs available, including office jobs within the industry.”

Attendees will also hear from local businesses interested in seeing more construction talent developed at a younger age.

“After working in project management for over a decade and then moving into a training role, I know how diverse careers in the construction industry can be,” Crosley said. “It’s important for industry leaders to work with our communities to let young people explore their interest in construction-related careers.”
